Polished Concrete Flooring Products
One of the most popular flooring trends of recent years is polished concrete flooring, and it’s become a regular fixture in commercial and residential properties alike. IFL UK has extensive experience in designing flooring for commercial and industrial premises around the UK.
Concrete flooring is ideally suited to such environments as it’s easy to keep clean, offers a stylish finish and is built to last. The dense and durable finish that concrete provides makes it ideal for industrial premises, while still retaining a contemporary elegance. From large warehouses and outlets to office buildings, auto showrooms and hotels, this sophisticated flooring provides a clean and professional image.
What is Polished Concrete Flooring?
Polished concrete is achieved by adding chemical densifiers to concrete – a mix of cement, gravel, sand and water. The chemical additions fill the pores and holes in the concrete, providing a smooth finish, as well as enhancing the wear-resistance and stain-resistance of the concrete. The concrete is then ground down with diamond polishing tools to achieve a sheen and a smooth surface, before being sealed.
There are several finishes that are possible with this type of flooring, depending on the grind chosen. For example, refined diamond polished floors expose a minimal amount of aggregate while fine diamond floors require around 3mm of the floor to be ground to expose more of the aggregate. Our processes can be used effectively on both new and old concrete – this means that even aged concrete floors can benefit from a new lease of life with this system.
With polished concrete, you’ll have a floor that is not only beautiful to look at but also anti-static, dust-free and slip-resistant. Polished concrete floors last for decades and continue to look great with minimal effort – the perfect solution for businesses and commercial spaces.
The Benefits of Polished Concrete Flooring
Polished concrete flooring offers a number of benefits to businesses, primarily as a low-maintenance and easy-to-clean flooring solution. It’s perfect for high-footfall areas such as shops, restaurants or offices, as it’s hardwearing and will stand the test of time, unlike carpet or vinyl flooring which can swiftly become stained and worn. Because this type of flooring does not require any hazardous coatings or cleaners, it’s a more sustainable option that can be maintained more easily than other types of decorative flooring.
Despite the sheen that polished concrete has, it delivers a surprisingly non-slip surface that provides plenty of grip underfoot. It’s also resistant to dust, dirt and allergens, making it a great choice for kitchens or bathrooms where hygiene is of paramount importance.
Another benefit of this style of flooring is that it works extremely well with underfloor heating, as it’s an excellent heat conductor and can be poured over underfloor heating systems with ease. It provides great heat retention properties to help maintain a regulated climate indoors too, which cuts down on energy costs.
